THE 2021 China National Computer Congress (CNCC), themed “Expediting Digital Transformation with Computing Empowerment,” opened at the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center in Bao’an District on Thursday.
This year’s congress emphasizes the highly apparent convergence of computing and various industries, since it covers not only academic and industrial developments in computing, but also art, law, ethics, economics and medical treatment.
Ni Mingxuan, president of CNCC 2021 and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), said in his speech that 2021 is a year for humanity to learn to coexist with the COVID-19 pandemic.
“While new technologies, new models, new business formats and new markets serve society more, we also need to think more about morality, values, ethics, law, humanities and other concerns, as well as science and technology innovation and talent training,” Ni said.
At a congress forum, John Hopcroft, Turing Award laureate and an academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), expounded his thoughts on how to cultivate quality undergraduates and shared his work experience in Chinese universities.
This year’s CNCC includes 17 lectures, three thematic forums and 113 forums on cutting-edge technology, with 32 topics covering academics, technology, industry, education and popular science.
Two Turing Award winners and seven academicians from CAS and the Chinese Academy of Engineering were invited to attend the congress. Several exchange activities will also be held at the event to encourage connection between industry and academia.
The congress is being held online and offline. In addition to the main venue in Shenzhen, a subvenue was set up in Beijing and guests were invited to give presentations and participate online.
CNCC, known as China’s largest computing event, returned to Shenzhen after a 10-year hiatus. The congress is scheduled to last until Saturday.
